Polyurethane Welding Rod
Polyurethane plastic welding rod is used when repairing thermoset (not meltable) polyurethane (PUR, RIM) plastic.
Urethane bumpers were very popular in the 1980s and 1990s and are still in production today, though much less common. When a bumper cover is made of yellow plastic, it indicates that it is made from thermoset polyurethane.
To repair PUR, use this welding rod with an airless plastic welder (temperature control recommended). The repair method for PUR won’t create a true fusion weld; the repair is similar to a braze and offers impressive bond strength.
When welding thermoplastic (meltable) polyurethane (TPU, TPUR), this welding rod can be used with a welder to create a fusion repair.
This welding rod comes as a continuous piece.
